Cabinet Member for Homes and Communities, Bristol City Council
Paul Smith is the cabinet member for housing at Bristol City Council, he has held this role since being elected in May 2016. Paul has worked in the housing and homelessness sectors since 1989 when he was a founder of a youth homeless project in Bristol which is now called 1625 Independent People providing housing and support services.
His career includes Chief Executive of the Furniture Re-use Network and Housing Potential UK. He has worked at Director level within a housing association group and prior to becoming a councillor he was Head of Intelligence and Insight at Aster Group. Paul is a Trustee of Talking Money which provides debt and benefit advice. Paul has also worked, twice, for the National Housing Federation. Paul's cabinet brief includes overseeing 27,000 council homes, delivering new homes, homelessness, private sector regulation and development of the council's property portfolio. Paul is a Fellow of the RSA and the Institute for Consulting.
